This section of island along the West side of the North shore is the most lush and tropical on St. Croix. Much of this area is not accessible by vehicle. There are many attractions in this quarter including Annaly Bay Tide Pools, Monk's Baths, Ridge to Reef Farm, Mt Victory Camp, Creque Dam, the world famous Beer Drinking Pigs at Mt Pellier Domino Club, historic Ham's Bluff Lighthouse (which sits about 360 feet above sea level and is a nice hike to access), beautiful beaches, great dining, diving at Butler Bay shipwrecks and Davis Bay, and the rainforest.
The Northside quarter is, as the name suggests, on the North portion of the island. Covered in lush landscapes, it provides many attractions including the Robert Trent Jones designed Carambola Golf Course, Carambola Zip Line, Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve, Columbus Landing, one of two bioluminescent bays, kayaking, world class diving of The Wall at Cane Bay, horseback riding tours, great dining, and Mt Eagle which is the highest point on St. Croix! You can enjoy lots of water sports along the beaches and during the late Winter months, you may even see humpback whales migrating along the North shore!
This quarter boasts lush land and pristine beaches with calm turquoise waters. Many of the attractions on island are located in this area, including the Frederiksted Pier (where cruise ships dock), great dining, water sports, museums, cultural attractions, horseback riding tours, historic walking tours, ATV tours, the Rainforest, and Fort Frederik, which was constructed from 1752-1760, and was where Danish Governor Peter Von Shoulten emancipated the slaves on July 3, 1848. The 3rd of July is celebrated on island as Emancipation Day. Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge is one of our popular attractions; boasting a 2 mile long stretch of white sandy beach, which is closed from April-August to protect the critical nesting habitat of endangered leatherback sea turtles. Sandy Point was also the location for the filming of the final scene of Shawshank Redemption.
Prince quarter is on the South West portion of the island. St George Village Botanical Gardens, St Croix Seashell Society Museum, Cruzan Rum Distillery, Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, Leatherback Brewing Company, which also has a restaurant and hosts live entertainment, and an industrial park are all located in this quarter.
This quarter runs from the West center part of the island and runs to the South shore. Here you'll find shopping, restaurants, Sejah Farm, St Croix Farmer's Market, Agricultural Grounds, and the Captain Morgan Rum Distillery. The University of the Virgin Islands and St Croix Educational Complex are also located here. Make sure to stop in to the world famous La Reine Chicken Shack for some delicious rotisserie chicken, red beans & rice, and Johnny Cakes! It's a must!
This portion of the island is sometimes called "mid island". Here you'll find lots of shopping at Sunny Isle Shopping Center, restaurants, a movie theater, the Juan F Luis Hospital, the oil refinery, many businesses, and the Sion Farm Distillery-Home of Mutiny Island Vodka-the only distillery in the world to turn breadfruit into vodka!
Company Quarter spans the island North to South. Downtown Christiansted provides quaint shops, great dining, many businesses, food tours, historic walking tours, and the boardwalk where you can grab a bite to eat or a beverage while watching the boats or the Seaplane taking off and landing in the harbor. From the boardwalk you can also board a charter to Buck Island or book a Tiki boat to cruise around. Take a short ferry ride over to Protestant Cay for live entertainment, relaxing on the beach, or snorkeling. Maybe you'll want to try your hand at the Caravelle Casino! Are you looking for a new furry friend? Stop in to the St Croix Animal Welfare Center and give an adorable dog or cat a new furever home!
The smallest of the quarters, this area is located in the historic town of Christiansted.
It includes 5 preserved historic structures: The Scale House (1856), the Danish Custom House (1844), the Steeple Building (1753), The Danish West India & Guinea Company Warehouse (1749), and Fort Christiansvaern, which was constructed in 1738 to protect Christiansted from a variety of potential invaders. Our beautiful island is rich in history and culture. We highly recommend taking advantage of one of the many discovery tours available while you're visiting.
This section of the island stretches from the North shore to the South. You'll find some great dining options throughout this quarter. Gallows Bay is a popular commercial area with shops, businesses, and restaurants. The St Croix Marina is located on the waterfront. From there, drive East to find the Buccaneer Beach and Golf Resort, and also Green Cay Marina, where you can charter a boat to explore the island from the water. You can find resorts and restaurants nearby, where live music and entertainment is a nightly offering. Just North of this quarter is Green Cay (a small uninhabited island) which is a protected bird sanctuary.
If you want to visit the Easternmost part of the United States, make sure to take a drive to Point Udall. If you're up for the challenge, take a 3.6 mile hike down and back to Jack and Isaac Bay, owned by the Nature Conservancy, for a gorgeous secluded beach and excellent snorkeling.The St Croix Yacht Club, Castle St Croix, Cramer's Park, The Reef Golf Course, Goat Hill, and Grapetree Bay are all located in this area. EB Quarter is the most arid on the island. Here you'll see many cacti, which is a stark contrast to the rainforest out West. Buck Island Reef National Monument is an underwater National Park located North of this section of the island. This 45 acre uninhabited island boasts pristine beaches and can be accessed by charter, where they will take you on a guided snorkeling tour of the underwater reef.
